References/Footnotes to my books

Traditionally, historians included references to sources in the published editions of their books, ideally as footnotes. By the time I began publishing serious works of history references had been relegated to end notes (For Fear of Pain and White Mutiny include references as end notes to chapters) but most publishers prefer to place them as end notes to the book, on the spurious grounds that they tend to frighten lay readers.

For the first time in Quinn’s Post I put footnotes chapter-by-chapter on the Australian War Memorial’s website.

I have also provided the references for Digger Smith.
